Cause serious corrosion damage

Boilers have been a common feature of the industrial workplace since industrialisation, and have uses in heat generation, cooking and even steam-based power generation.. Oxygen can cause serious corrosion damage by forming oxides and rusting the pressure vessel wall. Areas undergoing this process that are under stress are then particularly liable to break, which comes with an enormous financial cost. Filtering of dissolved solids during boiler water treatment effectively prevents this from happening. Commonly, these are mostly removed through the use of a physical deaerator, although boiler water treatment featuring chemical oxygen scavengers will also remove any residual offending corrosive agents. This can cause a massive decrease in boiler efficiency and therefore increase your costs. Boiler water treatment featuring deionisation and alkalinisation steps is effective at preventing this. Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, combines with the feed water to form carbonic acid which adds to the corrosive process.

' Priming ' priming occurs when the water of the boiler foams up, increases in volume and spills over into exit lines.

Boiler Water Treatment Prevents a Number of Problems

Primarily, boiler water treatment is designed to protect your boiler, and encompasses a number of different chemical and/or mechanical processes. For these reasons it's paramount that boiler integrity is maintained, and boiler water treatment is a key component in this.

' Caustic Embrittlement ' primarily caused by sodium carbonate in feed water; as its concentration builds up, the sodium carbonate undergoes hydrolysis to form sodium hydroxide and carbon dioxide. Their treatment solutions for boiler feed water are tailored to prevent all of the problems above.

ELGA Process Water Provide High Quality Boiler Water Treatment Services

ELGA Process Water have been specialists in water treatment solutions for over 75 years, and serve the pharmaceutical, scientific, manufacturing and healthcare industries. This causes problems in systems that contain pistons and valves where any moisture can cause significant damage. Some of these processes can be vital to the continued function of a business, especially if aspects of that business rely on the steam that their boiler produces. Some of the more common problems include:

' Corrosion ' in boilers, this is caused primarily by oxygen and carbon dioxide. The high temperatures and pressure experienced by the water inside the pressure vessel of any industrial scale boiler will mean that the water takes on different chemical and physical properties that can precipitate a host of problems that boiler water treatment can prevent. As this aqueous sodium hydroxide seeps into and dries in minute cracks in the boiler interior, it attacks iron in the casing and embrittles it.

' Precipitation Fouling ' non de-ionised feed water in a boiler can result in a rapid build up of insoluble magnesium and calcium salts, which can precipitate at saturation and form a solid coating on the inside of feed and exit lines. Boiler water treatment that adds tannin or lignin to the feed water prevents this, as these chemicals seal the minute cracks in the walls of the pressure vessel.
