Bill O'Reilly Out At Fox News After Sexual Harassment Allegations 21st Century Fox announced Wednesday that Bill O'Reilly will not return to Fox News after a review of the sexual harassment allegations against him that provoked an advertiser boycott. ROBERT SIEGEL, HOST: TV host Bill O'Reilly won't be returning to Fox News from that holiday - ever. This afternoon, the controlling owner of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, announced that the network is dropping O'Reilly after a thorough review of sexual harassment accusations against him. In a statement, O'Reilly said - and this is a quote - "it is tremendously disheartening that we part ways due to completely unfounded claims. NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik has been covering the controversy and joins us now from New York. And David, what happened in recent days to lead to the Murdoch family's decision to oust O'Reilly? DAVID FOLKENFLIK, BYLINE: Well, it was pretty clear there was a bit of a split in the Murdoch family.

Bill O'Reilly is not a personal favorite of his, but he's made the network and the Murdoch family a lot of money, call it, in the nine figures for advertising. I mean it's over a hundred million dollars a year. And they thought perhaps this would blow over. The sons said - James and Lachlan said this is a regressive face to be putting on Fox News right now. He is coming under scrutiny for sexual harassment accusations in the past. There were new ones being compiled in recent days that were seemingly just not going to end. There was a concern that this would be sort of the image attached to Fox News, particularly in LED Canopy Light of the sexual harassment scandal that cost Fox News chairman Roger Ailes his job last summer. SIEGEL: How bad is that that scrutiny of O'Reilly? Where do those accusations now stand? FOLKENFLIK: Well, there have been new ones in recent days. The activist lawyer Lisa Bloom in Los Angeles has been filing other complaints on behalf of new clients and doing so for women whom she says aren't seeking financial compensation.
That is, these are just women who want their stories heard. Most recently, there's an African-American woman who claimed that O'Reilly had really referred to her leeringly and looked at her in ways - talked to her in ways that sexualized her without in other ways conferring on her the sense of being a colleague. And while one could if this were a one-off say, well, perhaps that's not that big a deal, but as The New York Times recently disclosed, the payments made by O'Reilly and his employers over the past dozen years have been in the neighborhood of $13 million. And there was a notion that this somehow might be a bottomless pit and would not allow Fox to get past the scandal and taint last summer. And this would be the issue that sort of defined Fox.

it’s a means by which we undergo a renewal of sensuous
FORD: It’s, you know, I don’t know that I’ve ever been thinking about anything. I just write stuff. I just write stuff down and put it down. That’s as close as I come to thinking. I mean, that’s what DeLillo said. Don DeLillo said that writing is a concentrated form of thinking. And that’s pretty much as close as I get to actual thinking. But yeah (laughter). GROSS: Do you teach literature? Because you seem to have all these things, like, at the forefront of your brain, all these great things that other writers have said about writing. FORD: I have an absorptive memory about things like that. I do teach literature at Columbia these days. But I – you know, I’m dyslexic, and I read really slowly. And one of the advantages of reading really slowly is things get in your brain and they stay there. And I’m not fiercely dyslexic, but I do – I do remember stuff.
You know, I – if I see something that – if I read something that I think is really interesting, I’ll copy it out on a 3-by-5 card and look at it every once in a while. It just sort of reminds me of great things. It reminds me of great things that people have said. And it encourages me about literature. These are usually things that are of a literary nature, like DeLillo’s line, a concentrated form of thinking. So I don’t know if it’s that I teach literature because I do that, or I do that because I teach literature, but yes. GROSS: So these 3-by-5 cards, how do you file them so you actually have access to them, or are they just, like, randomly organized and you skim through them? FORD: They are chaos, and I – and I often skim through them. Just – you know, if I’m on a plane sometime and I don’t know what to read and I don’t feel like reading, I’ll just get out this lump of 3-by-5 cards and read them through. I feel much better after that somehow. And I also find all kinds of – all kinds of currents through my 3-by-5 cards about – about the efficacy of literature, why people write, what the consequences of literature are, what It’s value and virtues are for its readers that like line of Leavis’ I quoted, which I love very much , that – it’s a means by which we undergo a renewal of sensuous and emotional new-lights life and learn a new awareness. One has a new partner, a couple of other close friends who are widows don't. The only friend/acquaintance men I know who have been widowed found new partners with almost disconcerting rapidity. It really did seem as though they couldn't stand to be alone, and you learned with surprise that within six months or so they had set up with someone else and you wondered LED Panel Light if this was just simply that they felt they wouldn't possibly be able to adapt to life on their own. On not wanting to purchase new things in old age I think the lack of acquisitiveness is, interestingly, a sort of old age thing. I have a houseful of possessions; I don't want any more things. But when you were younger, you often wanted new things, yes indeed.

Immunohistochemistry
Expression of TLR4 in the rat pineal cryosections was performed accordingly to da Silveira Cruz-Machado et al.22. Briefly, animals were deeply anesthetized by intramuscular injection of ketamine (160 mg/kg) plus xylazine (40 mg/kg) and perfused transcardially with 150 mL saline solution followed by 1000 mL of cold 4%paraformaldehyde fixative solution, pH 9.5. The perfusion was performed at two time-points at LED Canopy Light phase (ZT2 and ZT10) or three different time points at dark phase under red light (ZT14, ZT18, ZT22). It is noteworthy to mention that in this experiment we have waited 2 hours after lights off because of differences between coding gene expression to protein translation. Each pineal gland was removed from the skull and cryoprotected in the same fixative solution plus 20% sucrose overnight, followed by 30% sucrose in PBS for 14 hr, embedded in Tissue Tek freezing medium, rapidly frozen in dry ice and stored at -80 °C. Cryostat sections (20 µm) were fixed for 30 min in freshly prepared 4%paraformaldehyde in PBS. Following 5 min of incubation with 0.1 M glycine, sections were incubated with blocking solution (3% albumin and 0.01% saponin in PBS) for 1 hr at room temperature. The Avidin-Biotin Blocking kit (Vector, SP2001, Burlingame, CA, USA) was used to block endogenous biotin. Rabbit polyclonal antibody against rat TLR4 (1:200; Abcam) was incubated overnight at 4 °C followed by incubation with appropriated secondary antibody conjugated to biotin (1:200; Abcam) for 1 hr at room temperature. The Avidin-Biotin-Complex (Vectastain Elite kit; Vector, PK-6105, Burlingame, CA, USA) staining system was used to localize biotinylated antibody. Peroxidase activity was revealed with 3, 3′-diaminobenzidine (DAB substrate kit for Peroxidase; Vector, SK-4100) according to manufacturer instruction. The sections were counterstained with methylene blue. Controls were performed by the omission of the primary antibodies from the procedure. Staining was completely abolished under these conditions.
Data analysis
Data are presented as mean ± S.E.M. Statistical analysis was performed using the unpaired Student’s t test or ANOVA followed by Newman–Keuls post-test. Values of p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant.
