Bridal show’s vow

The 2017 Central Sussex Bridal Show featured a “marriage” of sorts: Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce and Cripple Creek Golf & Country Club.

The Millsboro chamber’s 22nd annual bridal show event played out Sunday at a new staging venue, featuring 22 vendors, door prize giveaways and a steady parade of “brides to be, bridesmaids” and other wedding party members in Candelight Bridal & Formal’s fashion show.

Sunday’s three-hour event at Cripple Creek marked the move from the bridal show’s longtime venue, the Millsboro Town Center.

“This is smaller, and it just gives a cozier feel,” said Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amy Simmons. “Overall, I think this has been a really good change. We don’t know what the plans are for next year yet, but this has definitely been an enjoyable experience working with Cripple Creek.”

Vendors spanned the wedding planning gamut: dresses, tuxedos, gifts, cakes, catering/food, entertainment, photography, travel and more.

“A one-stop shop for bridal needs,” said Ms. Simmons.

Music and emcee duties were undertaken by Brian K. Hall, one of the entertainment vendors. Sky Brady was also on hand with options for wedding bookings.

Among the vendors: Fortier Photography of Georgetown. Owner Sue Fortier got her start as a shutterbug at an early age.

“I just loved taking pictures. I wanted a camera as a little kid. And it kind of evolved. I bought all this film equipment and then it went to digital,” chuckled Ms. Fortier.

She started professionally in a studio in New Jersey, doing mostly portraits and communion pictures.

“Then it branched off into weddings. I also do real estate photography but most of my business is weddings. Weddings are my bread and butter,” said Ms. Fortier.

With a new twist, the fashion show was again staged by Candelight Bridal and Formal, owned by Julia Cornell-Ferris of Millsboro. Models of all ages strolled about throughout the event.

“With Julia doing a continuous show with the girls coming out with different things, I think that just added a very special touch that we did not have before,” said Ms. Simmons.

Cake-maker Dee Daisey of Millsboro-based Cakes by Dee sliced up one of her chocolate cake specialties for free sampling.

Ms. Daisey’s top cake seller in today’s world: tropical; pineapple, cherries and coconut. Her No. 2 is chocolate.

“I use nothing but buttercream,” she said. “And it’s all my recipes.”

Chardon Jewelers, owned by Donna and Charlie Koskey, was the bridal show sponsor. “We can’t go without them being our sponsor,” said Ms. Simmons. “Donna and Charlie are great people to work with.”
